Shipping to the United States – Tariff & Duty Information
At OnlineSupply.ca (operated by Skookum Tools Ltd.), we value our U.S. customers and want to make it clear how tariffs, duties, and taxes may apply when shipping from Canada to the United States. Below is a transparent explanation of what to expect and how we help minimize surprises.
What Does DDU Mean?
All orders shipped from Canada to the United States are sent under Delivery Duty Unpaid (DDU) terms. This means that your order total at checkout covers the cost of products and shipping only.
Any import duties, tariffs, or taxes charged by U.S. Customs are the responsibility of the receiver (the customer). Couriers such as UPS or FedEx may contact you directly to arrange payment before or at the time of delivery. These charges are determined by U.S. authorities and are separate from what you pay at checkout.
We recommend reviewing potential import fees in advance so you’re fully informed before placing an order.
Why Are Tariffs and Duties Changing?
U.S. tariffs and trade rules can change periodically, particularly for industrial goods such as abrasives, cutting tools, and metalworking products. When this happens, certain products made outside of North America may become subject to additional duties—sometimes as high as 25%—depending on their country of origin.
These policy changes are determined solely by the U.S. Government and are beyond our control, but we always strive to help our customers understand what’s happening and minimize any unexpected costs.
CUSMA/USMCA Tariff-Free Products We Sell
Many of our products qualify for tariff-free entry into the United States under the CUSMA/USMCA trade agreement when shipped from Canada. For eligible items, we include the required origin documentation/certification with your shipment so U.S. Customs can apply the duty-free treatment.
Products that qualify:
- Skookum Custom Welded-to-Length Bandsaw Blades
- Skookum Carbide End Mills
- Skookum Miller Blades
- Skookum / Royce Ayr Carbide Saw Blades
- Skookum / Royce Ayr Carbide Spiral Router Bits
Important: While we provide complete CUSMA/USMCA paperwork for qualifying goods, final tariff decisions rest with U.S. Customs and the courier, and government policy can change at any time. Brokerage or processing fees, as well as state and local taxes, may still apply even when tariffs are waived. If you have any questions about whether an item qualifies or how your order may be treated at the border, please contact us before placing your order — we’re happy to help.
How to Prepare for U.S. Shipments
To ensure the smoothest experience:
- Double-check your shipping address and phone number for courier contact.
- Be aware that couriers may collect duties/taxes on delivery.
- Watch for an email or text from UPS or FedEx regarding customs clearance.
- Contact us if you receive a customs inquiry — we can often provide supporting paperwork to clarify product origin.
